Trae's 2 week check-up

Today, Trae and I went to his 2 week check-up with Dr. Hay, his pediatrician. It was all good news. Trae weighed in at 7lbs. 6ozs. and measured 20 inches. I can't believe he has gained a whole pound in one and a half weeks. (Although, he does like to eat!) I think I will attribute a few ozs. to the wet diaper he was wearing when we weighed. Boy do they grow fast or what? (I hope he fits in his preemie Christmas outfits.) Dr. Hay also removed what was left of his umbilical cord. His cousins will sure be glad that is gone. Zac and Justin were not impressed with his belly button last time they saw it!! We will go back to Dr. Hay at 2 months if all is well.

John and I will hopefully post his Christmas pictures tomorrow. We mailed our cards yesterday. In the mean time here are some pictures from today. Trae was taking his 5th nap of the day after visiting the doctor and grandma at work.

Trae's first bath

Below are a few pictures of Trae's first bath. As you can see, he was not thrilled. We also took a short video clip, but due to foul language that mommy used when she dropped the shampoo bottle, we will not be posting it here. Today we took Trae to Huntsville Hospital to meet everyone that Kari works with and then we went to the mall. While we were there, we stopped to feed him and he spit up all over Kari, so we decided to come on home. Last week we received a letter from the hospital that said that Trae "missed" his hearing screening while he was in the hospital. Not sure how he missed it since he was THERE the whole time, but we are taking him tomorrow to have that done. We will be posting the Christmas picks later this week.

Our First Day Without Daddy...

John went to work today for the first time since Trae joined our lives. It made for a very long day. Trae is sleeping waaaay too much and will only take an ounce of formula at a time. I am terrified that we have our days and nights screwed up. I will definitely find out tonight. I am on night duty since John will go to work tomorrow as well. I am counting down to Sunday. Daddy will be off for 4 more days!!! Can we say....Daddy will be on night guard then!!

This week has been so long. Most of the week is just a blurr. However, Wednesday, John and I had a photo shoot with Trae for our Christmas card photo. I have addressed the majority of cards and they are ready to go out. We just need to stamp them. I can't wait to mail them!! They are too cute, if I say so myself. I feel kinda guilty about mailing Christmas cards. I still have several thank you cards to mail and I haven't even started them. Once our cards have made it to the mail, we will post some of the photos from the shoot.

Trae has arrived

So... Trae arrived on December 6th at 7:43pm, weighing in at 6 lbs 5 oz and was 19 inches long. When he was born he had a fever and was on an I.V. for the first 48 hours. He and Kari were able to come home Sunday morning. Most of his first day home was spent sleeping. Sunday night we went and visited Grandma and Grandpa Crowell and then went to Target to have some pictures developed. Trae went to sleep about 10pm Sunday night and slept about 2 hours before he had to get up to be fed and changed. After he went back to sleep around 1, he slept until Kari woke him up at 7:30 this morning. He has been such a good baby. The only time he ever cries is when we change his diaper. We have to wake him every time we want to feed or change him. When he is awake all he does is open his big eyes and coo. Today he had his first pediatrician's visit. Everything went well and they said that he had gained 1 oz. Here are a few pictures from the hospital as well as yesterday once he got home. We will be posting more in the next few days.

20 Things About Me

1. I am having my first baby tomorrow. (And I am definitely freaking out about it on the inside)
2. I have eaten chicken noodle soup for lunch the past 3 days.
3. I Love to be tickled, rubbed, or massaged. Poor John says, "Can I just go to bed one night without having to rub, tickle, or massage something!"
4. I am most proud of being the first Crowell kid to finish my bachelor's degree in exactly 4 years. I am definitely not the smartest of the Crowell kids, so this is quite an accomplishment.
5. I have touched more dead bodies than anyone should. (I am an RN and worked in an ICU)
6. I have actually delivered a baby myself with Dr. Shannon's assistance. However, I didn't get paid for it.
7. I met my husband when I was 17. That same night, I told my parents I would marry him and that he would be the father of their grandchildren! I guess you could say I always get what I want.
8. I LOVE to cook. I hate to see the mess of dishes and definitely don't do the dishes, therefore, I don't cook but once in a blue moon.
9. I can not keep a secret from my husband. If I know, he knows. However, I did last year for his birthday. I thru him a surprise party and it was great!
10. My favorite movie of all time is Dirty Dancing. I know all the words. "Nobody puts baby in the corner!"
11. Christmas is my favorite time of the year. I always start decorating before Thanksgiving.
12. John and I went to Hawaii in March of 2006. This is the only place I have always wanted to visit.
13. I have been to Hawaii, Mexico, and Canada all in the same year.
14. I have only read a handful of novels my entire life.
15. The coolest thing I have witnessed is a nurse harvesting my patients corneas after he pasted. I hate eyeballs. So to say I actually watched this and didn't weird out was pretty cool.
16. I sound just like my sister Kelly on the phone. Even our husbands can't tell the difference.
17. I will never work in an Emergency Room. I can't stand the smell of burned flesh or the thought of taking care of really sick children.
18. I learned to swim when I was around 3 years old.
19. My favorite vegetable is green beans.
20. I was toe headed.

My Ode to the Castleman house...

Okay, I wasn't going to do this but since I have been challenged...

1. I have literally "lived" in 3 of the 4 bedrooms of this house. I remember moving into a new room with great excitement only to be moving out of my new room with each return trip home that Kelly made.
2. Even though I had my own room on some occasions, I was the only sibling who managed to sleep in everyone's bed at some point. I don't know if I was too cute to say no to or if my brother and sisters were too sleepy to care.
3. The "slip n' slide" as Klancy mentioned was always great, however, she failed to mention it was always fun for the whole neighborhood.
4. WAVEPOOL!!!
5. The front bathroom's broken tub. I vividly remember mom and dad paying someone to refinish the tub crack that had been there my whole life, only for dad to turn around and break it in the same spot the next week.
6. Spending afternoons in the living room by the Christmas tree after school. I would sit there for hours with the Christmas teddy (that I believe mom and dad still have) and play Christmas carols.
7. Taking a nap on the ugly blue sofa in the living room one afternoon, only to wake up several hours after the search party had returned. I guess they thought I had ran away.
8. Having to do chores every day of the summer!! We had to have the chores done by the time mom came home for lunch at 11am. I remember Kelly always setting the oven timer and seeing who could finish their chore first. "It was a game." I was young enough to believe that.
9. John meeting me at my house for the first time and me being frantic to make sure the garage door was down. It was a jungle in there!
10. Embarrassing Kory by getting out of the shower and not having a towel or underwear with me so I would run to the living room table to get some clean laundry. This of course is were everyone was suppose to have gotten their clean, folded clothes and put them away.

And that's just a few, the list could go on and on....

Update

Just writing an update....This weekend was a nice one. John was off all weekend. Saturday we stayed home all day. I mostly slept a lot. (I am so over this pregnancy and all the fatigue that comes with it.) John mostly watched football and played his X-box 360. This is great for him to have one last weekend to get the kid out of him. Little does he realize, his X-box days are going to be few and far between from now on. On Sunday, We didn't do much but go to our final baby shower. Klancy and my good friend, Lauren and her mother threw us a shower. It was really nice. I enjoyed it. John even came to the shower. I didn't even ask for him to come; he just wanted to. I think it was great that he came. I let him open all the gifts. (He had not gotten to open a single gift until then.) I just got to show up, enjoy the guest, enjoy the food, and relax. He even loaded and unloaded the gifts from the car. But of course if you know John, you know he can still a show. Especially, when it is a bunch of ladies involved. He is always endless entertainment! I haven't downloaded any pictures from the shower yet. Sorry.

As of yesterday (Monday) I decided that Friday was my last day of work. I was going to work yesterday and today...but after a night of not sleeping and cramping all night Sunday, I called work and told them I would not be returning until February. I am quite disappointed that I couldn't work these last few days because all I am doing at home is thinking of Thursday (D- Day). It is all becoming really real now. I am so full of mixed emotions. We are just praying for the best of the labor situation and a healthy baby.
